History about Zacatecas
The words Nahuatl Zacatl, that mean the place where the grass grows, give the name of the state of Zacatecas and its capital
When the Spaniards arrived this zone occupied by some indigenuos groups.
)Zacatecos, Caxcanes,Tepehuanes and others.
The first time the Spaniards arrived in this region was in 1531howevewever the Spaniards stayed here for a short period of time, it was because of the rebellion of the local tribes heading by Caxcanes.

Tourist Guide

"El Eden mine"

Open everyday from 10:00 to 22:00 hours.

This touristic center is in the city of Zacatecas and it is open since 1975, after it was fixed to be a safe place to visit. The stairs, bridges, corridors and working areas were capted to be safe for the visitors. There is a discoteque named "El malacate" you entered the mine by the tunnel (la Esperanza) that is 600 meters long, where a train runs to the heart of the mine, the exciting start when you enter the miner on the little train, I explain it at the begining until the end of the tour. This is an arid place but once people that lived here got wealthy in the mining activity. This tours ends in the cable car station and continuo another tour to "Cerro de la Bufa".

"Teleferico cable car"

You can see a panaromic view of the city. Was built in the year of 1978, it was put in service in June 1979. It has two stations and you can start the trip in any of them, but is better to start in el Grillo because you continue the trip, you are coming from El Eden mine and cross part of the city, (about 650 meters) over houses and buildings about 85 meters high and it ends in the Bufa hill. You cover this trip by air in 7 minutes and each car transports up to 12 people in a trip with no more than 1200 kilograms. The cable car has crystal walls, so you can see all the city. This is a big attraction in Zacatecas.

"La Quemada"

Is an arqueological zone situated southeast of Zacatecas. In this place you can admire many pre-Columbian buildings placed in artificial "terrazzo" in a hill. The construction is made of stuko and a flat white stone or the region. We find a column room, the ball field, the votive pyramid, the palace. In the highest part of the hill, we will find "La Ciudadela". Our ancestors were here and built it. From 800 to 1200 a.c. there is a museum there with all the arqueological information of all Zacatecas.

At 165 kilometers from Zacatecas, we find one of the places with more mines in all Mexico.
